This is my first blog and I am excited to share my passion with the rest of the world. My name is Darrien Skinner and I am a Junior at Texas State University. I am 20 and a public relations major with a minor in pop culture. I am a full time student and I work most of my time outside of class.

This blog will be my place to share activism around the world that I find inspiring. I will highlight young people getting involved in society in a positive way. I also hope that I can show you a way to get involved wherever you are.

So by now you are probably wondering: Why Activism?

I have worked in youth advocacy in many different ways over the past 5 years and it is my passion in life. Most of my work has been in youth tobacco prevention and tobacco control. I got involved in tobacco prevention during my freshmen year of high school when I learned of the tobacco industries manipulative ways and I decided that I wanted to be someone that would make a difference by standing up against Big Tobacco.

919330_10151697891275499_1899513006_oI currently work for the Texas School Safety Center here at Texas State University as student worker for the Say What! initiative. I manage the social media, public relations and teen ambassador development for the Say What! campaign; along with other daily tasks. I also work with the University of Texas on the new college initiative, Peers Against Tobacco . Outside of both of these jobs I present to youth and their adult partners all around the country on how to be social change advocates on social media.

The World is beautiful already, it can only get better!

Even if tobacco prevention and control is not for you I hope you can relate to something on this blog and adapt it to your work or what you want to change in the world.

Please browse around and let me know what you think!
